Pike Liberal softball knocks off Ashford Academy

Kailee Taylor helped the Pike Liberal Arts Lady Patriots earn the win by pitching a four-hitter against Ashford Academy Thursday night on the road.
Taylor baffled the Falcons with 11 strikeouts in the circle. The Lady Pat battery did its part with timely hits and key runs throughout the contest.
Kayla Dendy was 1-4 with a hit in the first inning.
Amberlyn Baker was 2-4 with a single and a double and scoring twice.
Kayla Benton was 2 for 4 with a triple and a single in the seventh inning. Benton earned a triple in the first inning and was able to score on a wild pitch for the Lady Patriots to take the lead 3-0 in the first inning. Ellie Barron was 2-4 with 2 singles. The Lady Patriots earned 7 hits and 6 runs with 7 runners left on base.
Defensively, the Pats were able to play tough with a double play with Ashford runners on 1st and 3rd closing an inning. Amberlyn Baker threw down to Kayla Benton, shortstop and then Benton throwing the runner out at home.
Also in the seventh inning, Mary Margaret Starling catches a fly ball and throws out a base runner at first base to get the first and second outs of the last inning. Kailee Taylor finished the game with strikeout.
Pike plays Lee-Scott on Saturday at Mendy Avant Field.
First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
