The cost of a Trojan education has risen. Troy University’s Board of Trustees approved a 3 percent undergraduate and 8 percent graduate tuition increase effective fall semester.
The University alerted students of the increase Thursday. “Increasing tuition is never a decision that is taken lightly,” stated the Troy University email. “Even with these newly approved increases, TROY remains among the most affordable four-year, public institutions in the state of Alabama and is frequently recognized nationally for the affordability of online degree programs.”
In addition to the rise in tuition, the university’s general fee was raised from $35 to $39 per credit hour.
Officials say the increases are part of the university’s efforts to trim an $11 million budget deficit. The additional tuition is expected to raise about $7 million. An additional $4.3 million has been cut from departmental budgets.
