Work is underway on the site of a new shopping center in Troy, but work had to be temporarily paused Thursday when an excavator caught fire.
Troy Fire Chief Michael Stephens said the cause of the fire is not known, whether it was was a mechanical failure or drove too close to a burn pile.
But firefighters extinguished the flames within five minutes of arrival and work soon resumed on the site.
Officials broke ground on the site on December 18 and construction will be ongoing on the site for the next year, with Hutton officials expecting the shopping center to open its doors in Spring 2021. The center must be open by November 2021 under the project agreement.
In addition to anchors Hobby Lobby and TJ Maxx, officials confirmed Ulta Beauty, Five Below and Rack Room Shoes to join the 120,000 square foot shopping center with more announcements to come.
Restaurants and stores are also being recruited for the outparcels surrounding the center.
The new center will be located on U.S. Highway 231 next to Lowe’s across from Troy Regional Medical Center.
