The new tennis complex on Elm Street is nearing completion and a date for the opening day is expected to be announced this week.
Dan Smith, director of Troy Parks and Recreation said the final inspections of the courts are underway.
"During the initial inspection of the courts a problem with erosion was discovered," Smith said.
Smith said the problem with erosion has been addressed and now the courts only lack some finishing touches before they are ready to be opened to the public.
"We met Thursday and still have not decided on a date for the opening but we expect to have it very soon," Smith said.
The new complex was built as a joint venture between the City of Troy, Troy City Schools and Troy State University.
The complex houses 12 lighted courts, a manager’s office, equipment storage, restroom facilities, and parking for 50 cars.
The hours for public use of the courts will be from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Smith said the TPRD will offer a variety of tennis programs through he new facility including: Youth and adult tennis leagues, local leagues, tennis instruction and tournaments.
"We’re going to utilize this facility to the fullest to promote tennis to young people as well as adult," Smith said.
