TAAC foe Mercer downs Lady Trojans, 3-0

MACON, Ga. – The Troy State soccer team (2-13, 0-8 TAAC) was defeated 2-0 by conference opponent Mercer (5-9, 3-6 TAAC) at Bear Field on Wednesday.
Mercer’s Anne-Marie Lapalme had the first goal of the game in the 38th minute, followed by Anna Bengtsson’s score off a penalty kick (47:49). Goalkeeper Genevieve Reid helped out the Bears’ defense with a seven-save shut out game.
Sophomore defender Nicole Carlo, a native of Denton, Texas, led the Lady Trojans offensively with three shots in the game. Casey Wiegley (Panama City, Fla.), Melanie Russell (Pelham, Ala.), and Courtney Dennis (Birmingham, Ala.) each contributed two shots for the day. Jessica Murphy, junior goalkeeper from Daphne, Ala., had eight saves in 90 minutes against the Bears, bringing her total saves to 105 for the season.
Troy State comes back home to face Thomas University at Trojan Soccer Field at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
