A one-vehicle accident on Shellhorn Road early Friday morning resulted in the death of a Highland Home man.
William T. McWaters, 31, of Highland Home was traveling on Pike County Road 1 about 14 miles west of Troy when his 2001 Chevrolet crashed, leaving him dead at the scene, Alabama Troopers reported Friday.
According to a Trooper spokesperson in Dothan, the accident is still under investigation.
Pike County Sheriff Russell Thomas described the place where the accident occurred as "on Shellhorn Road near the intersection of Kelly Road."
Thomas said Troopers worked the accident since it resulted in a fatality.
According to Troopers, the crash occurred around 3:15 a.m. The spokesperson did not reveal the direction McWaters was traveling.
"The vehicle driven by Mr. McWaters was the only vehicle involved in the accident," said the spokesperson for the Troopers.
McWaters was pronounced dead by Pike County Coroner Jerry Williams.
According to the spokesperson, Trooper Stanton is the investigating officer.
The spokesperson did not comment on whether or not the victim was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.
