Lady Trojans take 10-0 win over Carver

drove in two runs as the Charles Henderson High School Lady Trojans defeated the Carver High School Lady Wolverines 10-0 in its home opener on a unseasonably cold and windy day at the Troy SportsPlex Monday afternoon.
Leading only 1-0 going into the bottom of the fourth, the Lady Trojans scored nine runs in the final two innings to earn the victory. The game was called after five innings because of the 10-run rule.
Sophomore pitcher Rachel Spurlin earned the win going five innings allowing just two hits while walking one and striking out 12 batters. Spurlin also had a good day at the plate going 2-for-3 while scoring and driving in one run for the Lady Trojans.
With the game scoreless going into the bottom of the third with one out, the Lady Trojans (3-3) began the scoring parade scratching out one run. Laura Wesley reached on a single, stole second, went to third base on a passed ball and scored on a RBI single by Kelly Miller to give CHHS a 1-0 lead.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Lady Trojans broke the game open scoring six runs. The key blows in the inning included RBI singles by
Spurlin, Ellis and Emily Watkins along with a two RBI double by Elizabeth Rountree.
The Lady Trojans finished off the game scoring three runs. Natalie Patterson, Lanell Boswell and
Chelsea Howard each scored one run in the inning for CHHS.
Among the individual statistics included Patterson, Howard and Amanda Floyd each scoring two runs and combining for four hits. Watkins, Wesley and Miller each had one hit and scored one run in the winning effort.
The Lady Trojans played at Greenville Tuesday afternoon.
