The meeting between Troy American and Troy National came a little earlier this year, but unlike last season’s District Dixie Minor Championship game, it was the Troy Americans pulling off a 12-11 victory in the second round of districts on Friday night.
Last year at the Sportsplex it was the Troy National team winning over Troy American to claim the title and a shot at state.
Dario Rouse came through in the fifth inning with a two-run homer that tied the game up at 11 runs apiece. Trey Walters ended the game in the bottom of the sixth with a single, driving in Logan Stewart, who had reached on a double to lead off Troy American’s at-bat.
Walters and Parker Sanders had two hits each to lead Troy American. Clifton Brady, Stewart, Quavian Lawson and Justin Senn all had hits as well. Brady was the winning pitcher.
Troy American advanced to face Troy National by beating Dothan National Red on Thursday night. Lawson and Andrew Johnson each had two hits to lead Troy. Bradley Floyd and Zeb Swindall each had hits also. Floyd came in to pitch in the first inning and pitched four, picking up the win for Troy. Brady was the closer.
The Nationals won over Ozark on Thursday night, led by Anthony McBride’s over-the-fence home run. Alex Adams, Clay Massey and Lloyd Shillabeer all had hits also for Troy National. Jake Smith pitched all six innings for the win, striking out six batters and walking two, while giving up four hits.
