MOBILE, Ala. Erin Doud’s goal late in the second half gave the Troy State women’s soccer team a 1-1 tie against South Alabama in a preseason exhibition match Saturday night.
After a scoreless first half, USA’s Cindy Rainville scored the first goal with a shot at the left post at the 63:31 mark. With just under 12 minutes remaining, Doud tied the match for the Lady Trojans by hitting a shot from 30 yards out, with Andi Tickles getting the assist.
The Jaguars out shot TSU 15-7 in the game. Senior goalkeeper Jessica Murphy made nine saves on the evening.
"It’s an encouraging start to the season," said head coach Qasim Sheikh. "To come from behind to tie the game and have two to three chances to win the game on the road is very encouraging. We started six freshman and it showed in the first half, but they came together and played very well in the second half."
Troy State opens its regular season with a home matches against Spring Hill on Aug. 31 and South Carolina State on Sept. 2.
