Pike County defense earns itself a place in the spotlight with performance against Chiefs

Alfonso Gross of W. S. Neal High School rambled for 321 yards to move into the prep football spotlight selected by the Alabama High School Athletic Association.

Pike County’s defense held Courtland to one first down and 26 total yards in a 41-0 triumph.
Gross rushed 24 times for a school record 321 yards and four touchdowns (77, 88, 19 and 12 yards) in a 38-32 win over Luverne.
Other spotlight performances:
Blake Davidson of Hoover completed 22 of 26 passes for 340 yards and five touchdowns in a 52-10 victory over Vestavia Hills.
Gary Johnson of Vigor intercepted four passes in a 34-6 triumph over Foley.
Tavaris Slaughter ran 15 times for 256 yards and five touchdowns in Vincent’s 36-7 victory over South Lamar.
Rayvon Howard of T. R. Miller rambled for 307 yards and five touchdowns in a 49-24 win over Clarke County.
Charles Green of Eufaula rushed for 246 yards and four touchdowns (17, 86, 47 and 32 yards) in a 49-11 win over Wetumpka.
Zac Wakefield of Winfield ran 23 times for 235 yards and three touchdowns in a 28-7 triumph over Hamilton.
Lee Baker ran for 174 yards and two touchdowns and threw a 76-yard scoring pass in Daphne’s 60-26 win over LeFlore, led by Marcus Collins’ 306 yards passing.
Damien Gray of Robert E. Lee rushed 29 times for 221 yards and three touchdowns, set up three TDs with runs of over 30 yards, and ran a two-point conversion in a 33-20 victory over Pelham.
Eric Parker ran for 238 yards and five touchdowns in Wilcox Central’s 50-0 win over Monroe County.
Steven Davis of Dale County threw for 200 yards and three touchdowns and also led the defense with eight tackles in a 63-32 triumph over Ashford.
Brad Graham rushed 16 times for 257 yards and three touchdowns in Erwin’s 28-26 triumph over Fairfield.
Marco Rembert of Demopolis ran 13 times for 211 yards and three touchdowns (16, 41 and 96 yards) in a 33-0 win over Shelby County.
Drew Strickland scored on a 60-yard reception, a 16-yard interception return, a 12-yard run, and a 60-yard punt return in Fruitdale’s 61-7 victory over J. U. Blacksher.
Jason Allen of Muscle Shoals rushed for 229 yards and four touchdowns in a 35-0 win over Bradshaw.
Michael Powell threw for two touchdowns and ran for a pair in Bayside Academy’s first-ever varsity football contest, 31-14 over R. C. Hatch.
Daniel Luffman carried 19 times for 208 yards and four touchdowns in Lexington’s 33-6 victory over Ardmore.
