Velma Buntin Morgan
Velma Buntin Morgan, 95, of Winter Park, Fla. died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2001.
She was a native of Pike County, along with her husband, Jimmy Morgan, and a large family of brothers and sisters, all of whom preceded her in death. Her parents were James Talley and Emma James Martin Buntin, who are buried at Bethel Baptist Church, which was built in 1825 just outside Brundidge.
Mrs. Morgan is survived by one child, Bibb Davis Morgan, and his wife, Joyce Green; one grandson, Jimmy Robert Morgan, and his wife, Judy; one granddaughter, Patricia Morgan Frame; and two great-grandsons, Jason and Jesse Morgan.
Visitation was from 9:30 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 1 in the chapel of Gray Funeral Home in Union Springs. Dr. Matt Helms officiated the service. Burial followed immediately in Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery in that community.
Pallbearers were Frank Starling, Ronald Sanders, Michael DuBose, Richard Green, Steve Green, LaDon Green and John Robert Green.
Memorials may be sent to one’s favorite charity.
Mrs. Frances Juliette Connell
Mrs. Frances Juliette Connell, 82, of Pike Manor Health Care, in Troy, died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001, at Edge Regional Medical Center. Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Saturday at
Salem Baptist Church in Brundidge with the Rev. Ellis Bush officiating.
Burial was n the Old City Cemetery in Brundidge with Skeen Funeral Home of Brundidge directing.
Mrs. Connell is survived by three daughters, Susan Childres of Montgomery, Rebecca Hall of Macon and Julie Beam of Coffee County; two sons, Joe Connell of Brundidge and Jimmy Connell of Banks; a sister, Hilda Henry of Alexandria, La.; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Connell; a daughter, Cynthia Connell Davis; and two brothers, Joe Rodgers and Wilson Rodgers.
Visitation was held from 6 to 8 p.m .Friday at the funeral home.
Virginia Youngblood Hix
Services for Virginia Youngblood Hix, 91, of Opelika and formerly of Troy, who died Saturday, Dec. 1, 2001, at Health Care Center of Opelika, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Old Lebanon Baptist Church
with the Revs. Henry Bailey and Perry Green officiating.
Burial will be in the church cemetery under the direction of Dillard Funeral Home of Troy.
Visitation is from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Monday at the church.
Mrs. Hix is survived by a daughter and son-in-la, Mary Alice and Robert Alford of Opelika; a son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Claire Hix of Springfield, Va.; a sister-in-law, Bertie Bryan of Northport; seven grandchildren, Robert and Sarah Alford, Todd Hix, John and Beverly Hix, and Eric and Amie Hix; five great-grandchildren,
Rob and Ryan Alford and Samantha, Preston and Rebecca Hix; and a nephew.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam Hix.
