Brundidge man dies in stabbing

A Brundidge man was stabbed to death early Friday morning and a suspect is in the Pike County Jail charged with murder.
Brundidge Police Chief Moses Davenport said Michael L. Rushing, 44, of Lawson Street, Brundidge was pronounced dead on arrival at Edge Regional Medical Center Friday morning after being stabbed several times in the chest and stomach.
Robert Scott Newton, 38, of Pine Street has been charged with murder and bond has been set at $75,000, the chief said.
"We received a call at the station at 12:28 a.m. Friday in relation to an incident on the corner of Lawson and Pine streets," Davenport said.
"According to witnesses, there was an altercation between the two men that resulted in one being stabbed."
Attempts to revive the victim were made at the scene by officers of the Brundidge Police Department prior to the arrival of Haynes Ambulance Service, Davenport said.
The suspect was arrested at 9:30 a.m. Friday at his home by officers of the Brundidge Police Department.
The incident remains under investigation by the Brundidge Police Department and the District Attorney’s Office
