Rev. J.O. Ellisor Jr.
Funeral services for the Rev. J.O. Ellisor Jr., 83, of Eufaula were held at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 14, 2002, at First United Methodist Church in Eufaula with the Revs. James D. Ellisor, Joseph H. Reams, Walter Ellisor and Alvin N. Harbour Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Addition Cemetery in Eufaula with Chapman Funeral Home of Eufaula directing.
The Rev. Ellisor died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2002, in Eufaula.
He was born March 8, 1918, in Andalusia, the son of the late Ethel Dillard Ellisor and John Oscar Ellisor Sr.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Eufaula, where he served as pastor from 1957 until 1968. He previously served as District Superintendent in the Alabama-West Florida Conference. He served the conference for a total of 33 years.
He was a graduate of the University of Alabama and earned a juris doctorate degree from the University of Alabama Law School. He practiced law for several years after his service as a major in the Field Artillery during World War II. Following the way, he attended Emory University School of Theology and earned his degree in 1952. He was ordained as a methodist minister in 1952.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Ruth Chandler Ellisor of Eufaula; daughters and sons-in-law, Judy Ellisor Fraser and Jim of Roswell, Ga., Joan Ellisor Grizzard and Bob of Rome, Ga., and Jo Ellisor Kilpatrick and Steve of Troy; grandchildren, Joanie, Jim and Lizzy Fraser of Roswell, Bobby, Jefferson and Emily Grizzard of Rome and Drew Kilpatrick of Troy.
Active pallbearers were: sons-in-law, Jim Fraser, Bob Grizzard and Steve Kilpatrick and grandsons, Jim Fraser, Jefferson Grizzard and Drew Kilpatrick. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Adams Bible class at First United Methodist Church.
