Friday's berth in the NCAA Division I basketball tournament for Troy State University's men's team was a first.
Although they lost to Xavier in the opening round, the Trojan team still earned the national respect it deserved.
Our hats are off to the team, and to Coach Don Maestri and his staff for their determined efforts at having a winning program that puts yet another feather in Troy State's cap.
Accolades go to the fans, too.
Hundreds of the Troy State faithful made the trek to Nashville to cheer on the Trojans. From the impromptu pep rally in the hotel all the way to yelling their lungs out, the fans carried the Trojans' spirit banner.
Congratulations also go out to Troy State's rodeo team for their strong showing in the weekend's rodeo. Cudos to both participants and supporters in making this an outstanding event in Troy.
We're also glad to see the Rotary Club is planning a 5K run and a one-mile Fun Run to benefit PolioPlus. We'd urge everyone to support this worthwhile event on April 12 at the Sportsplex.
