Academy Street reunion this weekend

This weekend will be pretty busy for Troy. In addition to the Fourth of July celebration and family reunions, over 200 Academy Street High School students will gather for a high school reunion.
The reunion is open to anyone who attended the old high school, which was opened in the early part of the century and closed in 1978 when Academy Street and Troy High School students integrated.
"It will be festive," said Mattie McGrady. "It's always a grand occasion."
McGrady said the reunion brings together old friends and introduces new ones.
On Thursday while she was working in her shop, Mattie's Fashion Boutique, a friend she hadn't seen since 1963 stopped by for a visit.
Her friend Barbara Page traveled from New Jersey to be here this weekend.
"Some exciting people are coming in," McGrady said, repeating a long list of states.
Besides seeing old friends, she said the reunion helps put well-known names with faces.
"You know their names and hear them, but not their faces," McGrady said. "It's nice to meet someone you've heard about."
The reunion will be tonight, Saturday and Sunday.
Tonight there will be a reception at the fairgrounds from 7-9 p.m. with a social right after. On Saturday, weather permitting, the group will gather for a picnic from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and have a banquet at 7 p.m.
The group will also tailgate at the Academy Street playground.
