CHHS clinches berth

The No.3-ranked Charles Henderson Trojans clinched a spot in the AHSAA Class 5A playoffs with an 11-1 win over Carroll High Thursday night in Ozark.

The win marks the fourth straight time the Trojans (22-6, 4-0 Class 5A, Area 3) have outscored an area opponent by at least 10 runs this year.

David Fleming picked up the win on the mound for CHHS, going six innings and allowing one run on six hits. He added seven strikeouts. Aaron Allen pitched the seventh inning, striking out the three batters he faced on 10 pitches.

At the plate, the Trojans compiled 13 hits. Jonathan Wade and Dario Rouse each had a two-run home run and Mitch McLeod, William Teal, Tanner Hensley, Daniel Martin, Daniel Hartley, Wesley Hayes and Parker Sanders each had one hit. Sam Jones and Drew Vaughan were each 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

The Trojans scored two runs in the first inning, three in the third, two in the fifth and four in the seventh. The Eagles lone run was in the fourth inning.
