Troy Classic hits second gear, enters main draw

The final four main draw spots of the USTA Classic of Troy were decided by qualifying matches Tuesday morning at the Lunsford Tennis Complex in Troy.
Megan Moulton-Levy defeated Elizabeth Lumpkin 4-6, 7-6(7), 6-2.
No. 2-seeded qualifier Petra Rampre defeated Natalia Ryzhonkova 0-6, 6-3, 6-1.
No. 3-seeded Gabriela Paz defeated fifth-seeded qualifier Mirjana Lucic 7-6(5), Ret.
Coco Vandeweghe defeated No. 4-seeded qualifier Maria Mokh 6-2, 6-3.
Paz, Vandeweghe, Rampre and Moulton-Levy will compete in main draw matches today.
Vandeweghe and Paz met in the U.S Open Junior Championship match earlier this year. Vandeweghe won the match.
Following the final qualifying matches, six matches of the main draw took place Tuesday.
Alexandra Mueller defeated Nicole Thyssen 6-7(2), 6-3, 6-3.
No. 4-seeded Catalina Castano defeated Raquel Kops-Jones 6-4, 6-2.
Madison Brengle defeated Libby Muma 6-0, 6-0.
Melanie Oudin defeated No. 5-seeded Angela Haynes 6-4, 7-6(2).
Sandy Gumulya defeated Romana Tedjakusuma 6-3, 6-3.
Sharon Fichman defeated No. 3-seeded Jelena Pandzic 5-7, 6-4, 6-4.
Doubles play opened Tuesday as well.
No. 1 doubles seed Raquel Kops-Jones and Abigail Spears defeated Tomoko Dokei and Mami Inoue 6-1, 6-1.
No. 3-seeded doubles team Nueza Silva and Nicole Thyssen defeated Sharon Fichman and Georgie Stoop 6-4, 1-6 (13-11).
Mallory Cecil and Megan Moulton-Levy defeated Allie Will and Alexandra Mueller 7-5, 7-5.
No. 4-seeded doubles team Madison Brengle and Anna Tatishvili defeated Gabriela Dabrowski and Margot Carter 6-2, 6-1.
Lauren Embree and Alexa Guarachi defeated Maureen Diaz and Chieh-Yu Hsu 6-2, 6-0.
The main draw continues today at 10 a.m.
Other events at the Classic today are a youth tennis clinic for 70 students from Goshen Elementary School.
There will also be a Pro-Am tournament tonight from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.
