John Ivey

John William Ivey, 87, of Banks, Ala. went to be with the Lord Feb. 16, 2009 at his residence.
Mr. Ivey was born June 7, 1921, in Sprott, Ala. to the late John Columbus and Mary Griffin Ivey.
He was employed by the U.S. Civil Service as a crash rescue firefighter.
Mr. Ivey is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ollie Mae Russell Ivey; son, James Larry Ivey; and two sisters, Irene Mosley and Ella Tennimon.
He is survived by one daughter, Betty Washburn of Jacksonville, Fla.; two step daughters, Jean Puleo, of Hackleburg, Ala. and Dixie Staffor, of Aurora, Ill.; son, John W. Ivey, Jr., of Banks, Ala; step son, Thomas Coleman, of Indiana; sisters, Leta Ham, of Sprott, Peggy Hannah, Gray, Ga. Dorothy Lawson, of Sprott, Eleanor Sarver, of Selma, and Jaunita Lingo, of Lawrenceburg, Ga.; brothers, Joe Ivey, of Selma and Pat Ivey, of Sprott, Ala.; three grandchildren, Stephanie Butler of Cocoa Beach, Fla., Brandon Ivey, of Newville, Ala., Casandra Washburn, of Jacksonville, Fla.; one great grand child, Logan John Ivey, of Newville, Ala.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Feb. 19, 2009, at 1 p.m. at Kirk Funeral Homes Marion Chapel.
The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service. Burial will follow at Ivey’s Chapel in Sprott, Ala. Rev. Arthur Thomas will officiate and Kirk Funeral Homes Marion Chapel direct. Pallbearers will be Mark Ivey, David Ivey, Brandon Ivey, David Butler, Dennis Ham, Craig Farrior, Brian Nichols and Chris Nichols.
