Lady Patriots split opening day

The Pike Liberal Arts Lady Patriots opened the Edgewood Academy Tournament with a win and a loss Thursday in Elmore.
Pike (7-5) destroyed Autauga Academy 16-2 in game one, but fell to region rival Macon-East 6-0 in game two.
The Lady Patriots opened the scoring against Autauga with two runs in the first inning, but the Lady Generals cut the lead to 2-1 in the first. PLAS put the game out of reach in the second inning with 10 runs and they tacked on four more runs in the third before Autauga scored one more run in the third inning.
Jodi Long and Ellie Barron combined to throw four innings on the mound. Long allowed one run on zero hits with four strikeouts and Barron allowed one run on two hits, struck out four and walked two.
Bobbi Jo Strother led the Lady Patriots at the plate, going 3-for-3 with three runs scored and five RBIs.
Rebecca Farrar was 4-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Sara Richburg was 3-for-3 with three runs scored and one RBI. Josie Griffin was 2-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBIs.
In game two the Macon-East Lady Knights shut out the Lady Patriots in a game that counted as a region game, 6-0.
Shelby Broadway threw a complete game on the mound, allowing six runs on four hits, striking out four and walking none.
Brittnay Newman went 3-for-3 at the plate and Farrar had Pike’s only other hit.
