Dr. Jack Hawkins Jr. has put to rest rumors of his plans for the future and, at least for now, is focusing his efforts on Troy University.
The longtime chancellor at Troy has been rumored to be a candidate for governor in 2010. And while he said this week that he had considered making a bid for the office, he ultimately was swayed by his passion for for the university. “I am far more passionate for Troy University,” Hawkins said.
And, during his tenure, Hawkins has shown that passion with his visionary leadership, taking the university to Division 1A in athletics; embarking on a unification of the system into “One Great University”; the construction of new buildings and plans for growth and expansion; even the changing of the name of the university, while debated by some, welcomed by many as embracing the future of the university.
The growth and outreach of the international programs, including the Confucious Institute and the 2+2 program, have strengthened Troy’s international presence and elevated its role in the global realm.
Throughout it all, enrollment has continued to grow; respect for the university has continued to grow; support has increased; and Troy’s reputation continues to be solidified.
Chancellor Hawkins has put together a dynamic leadership team at the university, one that works well with his vision and direction. Together, they are well poised to continue leading Troy University into the future.
We’re glad Hawkins chose to focus his energy on Troy University, for the short term and the long-term. Our university and our community will benefit.
