Services for Martha Ann Williams, age 62, of Troy, Ala., who died April 2, 2009, will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 18, 2009 at Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Troy, Ala., with Pastor Jeremiah Toney officiating. Burial will follow at the Union Springs Cemetery, Brundidge, Ala. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, April 17, 2009 at George F. Grubbs Funeral Home, Troy, Ala. Martha Ann Williams was born Jan. 3, 1947 in Troy, Ala. the child of the late Sylvanius Williams and the late Mollie Williams.
She received Christ at an early age under the leadership of Rev. J. H. Smith at Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church. She graduated in 1965 from Academy Street High School. She worked for 31 years for Fruit of the Loom as an Inspector. Later, she worked for the local branch of the American Red Cross as an Administrative Assistant.
Her hobbies included cooking and her passion in life was helping others.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Sylvanius Williams and Mollie Williams, her brother, Mr. William Jr. Lee, and her sister, Ms. Nellie King. She leaves to cherish her memories: two daughters, Dr. Demetres Williams of Silver Springs, Md., and Tanya Williams of Troy, Ala.; two sisters, Mrs. Blonzell Byrd and Mrs. Mary (Andrew) Noble, both of Troy, Ala.; her nieces and nephews, Christopher King, Victor King of Detriot, Chandra Barnes of Troy, Ala., and Jonathan King of Demopolis, Ala.; two aunts, Bronella Brantley Williams of Troy, Ala., and Ruby McNeal of Detroit; special cousins, Angie and Regina Williams of Union Springs, Ala., Mrs. Judy Wheeler of Augusta, Ga., Mr. John Walter (Emma) McGuire, Ms. Jean Terry of Troy, Ala., and Derek McNeal of Detroit, Mich.; other relatives, Elison Williams of Mississippi, Jimmy Helen of Ohio, Linda Williams, Robert Williams, Marvin Williams, Margaret Williams, Ruthie Williams, all of Troy, Ala., and Sophie Williams of Ohio; special friends, Ms. Mattie Cooper, Ms. Linda Jean Zachary, and Mrs. Adine Arnold, all of Troy, Ala., and Ms. Betty Streeter and Beatrice Mason of Brundidge, Ala.; and a host of other cousins, relatives and friends.
