The Dixie Minor Nationals tournament team is currently preparing for its sub-district tournament on June 26 in Luverne.
Both the players and coaches are excited about their team and like their chances at the sub-district tournament.
“Practice has been going good,” head coach Lee Hussey said. “We’ve been very pleased. All the kids have had positive attitudes. Of course, there’s a lot of talent out here, so we’re real optimistic about our chances at sub-district.”
According to Hussey, the players on the team are going to surprise some people at sub-district.
“They’ve all impressed me,” Hussey said. “We’ve heard talk all year that our division is the weaker division. These 12 kids are the most underrated kids, I believe, in the entire league.”
Grant Hughes said he is excited about his first time on tournament team.
“It feels pretty good because I’ve been in this league for two years and this is the first time I’ve made it,” Hughes said. “Almost every coach said I was pretty close last year.”
Another player, Tyler Hussey, also said he was thrilled to be a part of the team.
“It’s the best feeling ever,” Hussey said. “I’m real excited about getting to play.”
In addition to Hughes and Hussey, the Dixie Minor Nationals tournament team includes, Cade Calhoun, Sterlyn Eiland, Tyler Floyd, Cameron Foreman, Bryson Gandy, Kobe Griffin, Jacovey Jones, Colton Meeks, Devan Suddith and Graham Wilkes.
The head coach is Lee Hussey and the assistant coaches are Derek Wilkes, Al Jones and Crawford Haas.
