Former Mayor of Troy James Ray passed away Thursday around 2 p.m.
Arrangements are pending at Green Hills Funeral Home as the family is scheduled to come in this morning.
Ray served as mayor Troy from 1963-1975, when the city had a rotating commission.
He also served as a state representative and was instrumental in the South Central Alabama Development Commission.
“He was really valuable to the city and our community,” Troy Mayor Jimmy Lunsford said.
Lunsford said he was planning to formally ask the people of Troy to fly their flags at half-staff the day of the service.
