Esther Taylor Powers, 94, of Columbus, GA died Friday, September 11, 2009 at Vista Care Hospice.
Funeral services will be Monday, September 14, 2009 at 4 p.m. in Striffler – Hamby Mortuary, Macon Road Chapel with interment in Parkhill Cemetery.
Rev. Woodrow Hudson and Rev. Steve Croft will officiate.
The family will receive friends Monday from 3:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.
Mrs. Powers was born August 4, 1915 in Phenix City, AL the daughter of the late Fred A. Hunter and the late Wesley Baker Hunter.
She had lived in the Columbus area all of her life and retired as the office manager for Dr. W.B. Dashiell after thirty eight years of service.
Mrs. Powers was a member of Hilton Terrace Baptist Church, Dorcas Sunday School Class, WMU, Keen-Agers, Baptist Women, and Audobon Society.
She was also past president of American Business Women’s Association and secretary for Muscogee County Medical Society. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph E. Taylor.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Janet Taylor Murphree and her husband, Sam of Columbus; two grandsons, Stephen Murphree and his wife, Leah and Frank Murphree
and his wife, Beth; four great-grandsons, Hunter, Cason, Adam and John Murphree; four step grandsons, Sam, III, Hugh, Phillip, and Gene Murphree; three sisters, Louise Taylor, Annie Ruth Caudle both of Columbus and Frances Anderson of Colorado Springs, Colo.; several nieces and nephews.
