The Charles Henderson Trojans will play in the finals of the 2010 Terry Sikes Memorial Tournament, this after they defeated Butler County Magnet 10-0 in five innings Saturday.
The win pushes the Trojans’ record to 4-0 in the tournament, assuring them of a berth in the finals.
CHHS jumped out in front of Butler County with 10 runs in the first inning, and never looked back.
The first nine batters for CHHS all scored. Mitch McLeod and Jawara White each had an RBI double in the first, while Jalin Lawson added an RBI single.
Chance Shaver pitched all five innings for CHHS, giving up just two hits while striking out seven batters.
The 10-run win for Charles Henderson marks the third win by 10 or more runs in the tournament. The Trojans have outscored their opponents 41-3 thus far in tournament play.
“We’ve just worked on having good at bats and taking good approaches at the plate,” said CHHS head coach Derek Irons. “We weren’t really doing that the first week, but this week it’s kind of clicked for us. We’re doing what needs to be done, and that’s the blueprint for success for anybody.”
Charles Henderson will play in the finals tonight at 7 p.m. against either Tuscaloosa County or Northridge, depending on results from the rest of Saturday’s games.
