A man in the Troy City Jail was taken to the hospital around noon today, after attempting to commit suicide in his cell.

The 54-year-old Troy man had been arrested on domestic violence charges less than one hour earlier, when jail staff found the inmate hanging.

“Jail staff initially found the subject and conducted CPR on him while waiting for paramedics,” said Troy Police Spokesman Sgt. Benny Scarbrough.

The man was transported and admitted to Troy Regional Medical Center.

Details as to the current condition of the man are unavailable at this time.
