The Dixie Youth baseball season came to an end Thursday night after the East All-Stars and West All-Stars split a doubleheader that saw both teams go home with their heads held high.
“I was very proud to be able to coach a bunch of great kids like we had on this team,” said Allen Blackmon, head coach of the East All-Stars. “It was an honor to coach them. They played a lot of positions they had never played before, and they all did really well with it.”
Blackmon’s East All-Stars were able to pick up the win in game one 14-12.
The East’s big inning was the second, when it scored 10 runs to take a 12-3 lead that it would not relinquish.
The West battled back with four runs in the third and five runs in the fourth, but the East was able to hold on for the victory thanks to a two-run third inning.
Hunter Blackmon scored twice, while Bunn, Christopher Farrar, Carter Ray, Bradley Blair, JP Steele Ty Witherington, HT Fountain and Dalton Faulkner all scored for the East.
The West was led by Brandon Williams and Curtis Thomas, who scored three runs each.
Jack LaBrant added two runs, while Jacovey Jones, Marquese Christian, Samuel Bland and Jabronski Williams all scored a run.
In game two, the West got its revenge with a 20-10 win over the East.
The West scored 11 runs in the first, and never looked back from there.
LaBrant led the way with three runs scored, including a three-run home run.
Brandon Williams and Thomas scored three runs each, while Jones, Jabronski Williams, Andrew arrant and Bland added two runs each. Christian also scored one run for the West in game two.
After the game, Blackmon said the game was about more than honoring the All-Stars for their on-field accomplishments.
“This is really a reward for these kids at the end of the season not just for being ball players, but for being great kids,” Blackmon said. “It was just fun to see them out there.”
