Outdoors Without Limits (OWL) and Campbell Enterprises are teaming up to present the “Catch a Smile” Bass Fishing Tournament and the “Bream Buster” June 25 and 26 in Pike County.
The bass fishing tournament will feature 12 BASS Elite anglers who are among the top 100 professional anglers in the country.
James Key, publicity chair for the event, said anyone who knows anything about bass fishing will recognize the professional anglers who will participate in the tournament.
The list reads like a who’s who among professional anglers: Greg Hackney and Shaw Grigsby both have television bass fishing shows and Pam Martin Wells is the country’s top professional female angler.
Other anglers will be Bill Lowen, Eric Netherly, Kevin Wirth, David Kilgore, Randy Howell, Aaron Martens, Keith Phillips, Keith Poche and Greg Vincent.
“OWL National Spokesman Hank Parker will also attend the tournament and will be the guest speaker at the Welcome Party on June 25 at Cattleman Park,” Key said. “The Welcome Party is open to the public and will feature each of the pro anglers and their boats. The anglers will be available to talk with the public and show their boats. They will also sign autographs and pose for photographs.”
Tickets to the Welcome Party/Anglers Meet and Greet are $20 and include a barbecue dinner. Tickets are available at Troy Sports Shop and Cabin by the Lake.
The “Catch a Smile” Bass Tournament will be held at Campbell Enterprises in Banks on Friday, June 25 and 26. A handicapped individual will be in each boat. Fishing gets under way at 6 a.m. and will end with weigh-in at 11:30 a.m.
“The public is invited at attend the fishing tournament,” Key said. “There will be a designated viewing area where people can watch and cheer on their favorite team. Both tournament weigh-ins –Friday and Saturday — are open to the public.”
A $5 ticket is required for each day and can be purchased at the gate. The ticket includes lunch.
On Saturday, the “Bream Buster” event for disabled youngsters and adults will get under way at 8 a.m. and conclude at 11:30 a.m.
Key said kids and adults who would like to participate in the “Bream Buster” event are encouraged to be at the pond before 8 a.m. and, if possible, bring their fishing gear with them.
“This is going to a great fishing tournament for the BASS Elite professional anglers and for the physically challenged kids and adults,” Key said.
“It’s a benefit event that will raise funds for the Outdoors Without Limits national organization and for the Pike County OWL Chapter. We invite the public to join us for the Welcome Party/Meet and Greet on Friday night at Cattleman Park and for the fishing and weigh-ins at Campbell Enterprises on Friday and Saturday mornings.”
