O-Zone Rookies fall to Eufaula

Rather than bad play, it was bad luck that cost the Troy O-Zone Rookies Saturday against Eufaula.
Troy lost 5-2 on a night where every hard hit ball seemed to be aimed directly at a Eufaula glove.
“There were several times tonight where we just hit it right where they were,” said head coach Ashley Floyd. “You couldn’t have had them in any better position if you tried. They played a flawless game.”
The small offensive output wasted a solid pitching and defensive performance from Troy, which has allowed just seven runs in two games.
“Our defense is pretty sound, and our pitching has held the other teams to five runs or less both games, so that part of our game is pretty much where we want it to be,” Floyd said.
Troy jumped out in front early when Devan Suddith hit an RBI double in the first to make it 1-0, Troy.
The score remained 1-0 until the top of the fourth, when Eufaula struck for three runs.
Jeffrey Little scored on a balk by Troy pitcher Jeremy Parker, and both Garrett Fenn and Jake Clark had RBI singles.
Troy responded with a run in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI sacrifice fly from Tyler Hussey to make it 3-2, but Eufaula extended its lead in the fifth.
Bobby Phillips scored on a passed ball, and Alex Welsh had an RBI single to provide the game’s final runs.
Suddith led the way for Troy, going 2-2 with an RBI. Welsh led Eufaula, also going 2-2 with an RBI.
Troy will now take on Enterprise National, and will need a win to keep its hopes of winning the district alive.
“They’re a good baseball team, but if we play to our ability, we can beat them,” Floyd said.
