With just a few weeks left in the summer camp held at Pike County Elementary School in Brundidge, the kids are hard at work preparing for their Family Day.
As part of the camp sponsored by East Central Mental Health (ECMH), with the support of the City of Brundidge and the Pike County School System, the children who have been participating will put on a show for their families and other friends.
“The kids have been working on three different songs so far,” said ECMH Community Outreach Specialist Jillianne Crescenzi.
The students, from grades K-6, will perform “Where is the Love,” by the Black Eyed Peas, “Seasons of Love,” from the soundtrack of Rent and “Why Cant We Be
Friends,” by War.
Cresenzi is working on some other activities for Family Day, including a way to show just what the kids have been doing this summer.
“”We’ll have a slideshow,” she said. “It’s going to be a time line of what we did through camp.”
Cresenzi said in addition to the families of the campers anyone who is interested in seeing the program is invited, and there will be formal invitations sent to some specific groups.
“We’re inviting the senior citizens from the Colley Senior Complex in Troy,” she said.
Cresenzi has also invited people from the Pike Activities Center in Brundidge.
Throughout the summer, children at the camp have participating in lessons and activities on conflict resolution, decision making, dealing with emotions, communication skills and accepting responsibilities. They have worked on arts and crafts and gone on field trips. Crescenzi hopes the lessons the children have learned and the enrichment they have experienced, will shine through on the day of their performance.
The Family Day will take place at the PCES gym at 1 p.m. Crescenzi estimated the program to last one hour.
