A brother and sister were arrested Thursday for theft and robbery at Wal-Mart after purses and other personal belongings were snatched from shopping carts, according to information from Troy Police Chief Anthony Everage.
Troy Police arrested Alexandria Rachelle Shedd, 22, at 6 p.m. Thursday. She was charged with third-degree robbery and second-degree theft of property. Her bond is set at $25,000.
Her brother Cory David Thompson, 19, was also arrested at 11 p.m. that day behind Walgreens for minor in possession of alcohol and second-degree theft of property. His bond is set at $5,000. The siblings are from Livingston, Texas.
According to information from the report, Shedd took a bag with an mp3 player and debit cards from one shopper’s cart and a purse from another woman’s cart. The woman tried to stop her, but Shedd shoved the woman, took the purse and ran. She also shoved an employee, but was then caught by people in Wal-Mart and detained until police arrived.
Thompson took a purse from another woman’s shopping cart, and then returned the purse when the woman confronted him, according to information from the report.
The fact that he returned the purse did not mean he wouldn’t be charged, Troy Police Spokesman Benny Scarbrough said. “When you’ve taken that property, you’ve already taken it,” he said. “You can’t make it go away.”
The siblings were both transferred to the Pike County Jail. All of the items were recovered, the report states.
