For the first time in the tournament season, the Troy 11-and-under girls will be competing for a trophy.
But that is not to say they have not already been playing games.
The Troy team was the only team not to play in the district tournament, thanks to a bye.
But during the past couple of weeks, the girls have been scrimmaging every team they can find, according to head coach Tim Bobo.
“We have had a lot of scrimmages,” the coach said with a laugh.
“We have scrimmaged the 11-and-under boys team three times this week, and have played against some of the other Troy teams as well. It’s always good to get the girls playing in a game like atmosphere, especially leading up to this weekend’s tournament.”
One of the team’s Troy scrimmaged is also one of the teams they will see in Saturday’s tournament in Prattville.
“We got together last Saturday and I think both teams played pretty well, which is always good to see. And then afterwards both teams ate together. So it was a good experience for both teams.”
Troy won the game against Prattville in a shoot out.
Bobo said he still expects there to be some anxiety when his team plays in a real match on Saturday however.
“Oh yeah, it will be there. But that is to be expected. It’s the first time the girls have played in a real game in a long time, but I think three or four minutes into the game they will relax and be ready to play.”
Troy will open things up against Dothan at 8 a.m., followed by Prattville at 11 a.m.
