Today is the day for Troy recreation soccer teams, as the state tournament will be taking place in Dothan.
One of those teams looking to bring back a championship trophy is the nine-and-under boys team.
“We are ready to play,” head coach Chris Huner said.
“The guys are looking forward to it and so are the parents. Hopefully, we will have a good weekend in Dothan.”
The Troy team will see how good of a weekend it may have right from the start, when it opens up against the defending state champion Oxford team, at 9 a.m.
“We are going to see exactly where we are right from the beginning,” Huner said.
“Oxford is a good team, but I think our guys are ready for this type of a challenge.”
From there, the team will have about a two-hour break, as its next game will take place at noon against Prattville.
But playing back-to-back games is not something that the head coach is worried about.
“If anything, we learned at the district tournament that our guys have a lot of stamina, which is a great thing. They have no problem playing in a lot of games in-a-row.”
During the two week break between the district and state tournaments, Huner said his group had been working on the finer parts of the game.
“We have been doing a good job working on passing, positioning and where to be on the field,” he said.
“The kids have done a great job up to this point, and I think they will continue to do so.
The Troy team will also be in action on Sunday, as it has two games against Dothan teams.
At noon, Troy will play Dothan Blue and at 3 p.m. Troy will take on Dothan Silver.
