Troy Police this week arrested two men in connection with a residential burglary but continue the investigation into an unrelated theft of nearly $40,000 of lawn care equipment.
Police arrested Demetrice T. Howard, 27, and Jarroda Quanzess Williams, 26, both of Troy, on charges of second-degree burglary.
The men are suspected of burglarizing a residence in the Townsend Mobile Home Park on N. Knox St. at approximately 8 p.m. Tuesday. Nothing was stolen because an individual in the residence interrupted the burglary attempt, said Sgt. Benny Scarbrough. “The suspects ran out the back door, and no one was injured,” he said.
Two days later, officers were called to the scene of an altercation near Rose Circle and Knox Street. “They discovered the suspects, who ran off into the woods,” Scarbrough said. “Police secured a perimeter around the area and the two suspects were taken into custody without incident.”
The men were being held Friday in the Pike County Jail on $30,000 bonds.
In an unrelated incident, Scarbrough said police are continuing to search for clues in the theft of a utility trailer loaded with law care equipment.
The theft took place sometime between Jan. 15 and Jan. 24, from a business on U.S. 231.
“They stole a 20-foot King American utility trailer,” Scarbrough said. The trailer held a Walker riding mower, two Bad Boy riding mowers, 2 Red Max leaf blowers, 2 Red Max weed eaters and a Red Max edger. The property and trailer are valued between $35,000 and $40,000.
“A reward has been offered up to $2,500 by B&L Lawn Care Inc.,” Scarbrough said. “The reward includes $1,500 for the location and recovery of the trailer and equipment and an additional $1,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the theft.”
Anyone with information about this crime or the location of the stolen property is urged to call the Troy Police Department at 334-566-0500.
