BBA to host ‘Spring Fest’

The Brundidge Business Association is beginning what they hope will be an annual family oriented, springtime event and they have aptly named it, Spring Fest.
The first-time spring festival will get underway at 9 a.m. Saturday on the grounds of the Bass House and wind down around 4 p.m.
This type of event is not new ground for the BBA. For more than 20 years, the business association sponsored a successful annual arts and crafts show in downtown Brundidge.
After turning its attention to other projects for several years, the BBA decided to bring back the arts and crafts show but with a different twist.
“Spring Fest is arts and crafts and a whole lot more,” said Dixie Shehane, BBA president. “We wanted to offer a family oriented event in the spring before people got involved with vacations and other summer interests,” Shehane said. “The idea was to include entertainment and games for all ages and food booths along with the arts and crafts. The response has been very good in that we have 30 arts and crafts vendors. We still have a few arts and crafts spaces available but all of the food vendor spots have been reserved.”
There will be Bingo and dominoes for that adults and lots of fun games for the kids, including the May Pole dance.
The Brundidge Volunteer Fire Department will have the Fire House simulator for the kids to visit and parents are welcome to join them on the tour.
There will be a wide variety of arts and crafts and food ranging from barbecue and watermelons to funnel cakes and blooming onions.
There will be a designated area next to The Market Place for yard sale items.
“Any organization that is raising money for its projects is invited to set up a booth for their yard sale items,” Shehane said. “All arts and crafts and yard sale booths are $30.
“The entertainment will be the Country Rhythm and Blues Band from 9 a.m. until noon. Then, at noon, the SheBANG! Cloggers will take the stage for about an hour. We’ll announce the other entertainers as soon as we have firm commitments.”
A unique Spring Fest event will be the Pet Parade sponsored by the Humane Society of Pike County.
“We invite everyone to enter their pets in the parade,” Shehane said. “It’s shaping up to be a lot of fun. But all pets are to be on a leash or contained in a pet carrier. All pets entered in the parade should have their rabies tag.”
Spring Fest is an invitation for families to come together in a day of fun and relaxation, strolling around Brundidge and enjoying the fellowship of friends and neighbors.
“Several of the businesses will have in-store specials and there will be lots happening on the festival grounds between City Hall and the Tupper Lightfoot Memorial Library,” Shehane said. “There’s no admission so just come and have a good time. That’s what Spring Fest is all about.”
