The contract negotiation process is under way for a new superintendent for the Troy City Schools.
Board President Roxie Kitchens said Monday that a proposed conract for Lee Hicks has been drafted by board attorney Richard Calhoun.
“Eeach of the board members received the proposal (Monday). We’re going to review it individually, and if no one objects, our attorney should begin negotiations (today),” Kitchens said.
Hicks, who is currently principal at Prattville High School, was selected by board members last Wednesday night to fill the open superintendent position.
Kitchens said Calhoun will act as the board’s agent in negotiations and members hope they can reach a verbal agreement with Hicks prior to Thursday night’s called meeting at 5:30 p.m.
“We should be able to get a verbal agreement, but the contract cannot be signed until the board members are all together and vote on it,” Kitchens said.
Also at Thursday’s meeting, board members expect to hear recommendations for the hiring of two campus principals: one for Charles Henderosn Middle School and another at Charles Henderson High School.
The board attempted to hold a called meeting Monday or today to consider the recommendations, but two members were out of town and unable to attend, Kitchens said.
Timing is a critical issue in the hiring of the campus principals, because they must give proper notice to their current school district.
And, officials have said that most districts renew contracts for the upcoming year starting July 1.
