With two wins under their belt, the Troy Americans coach-pitch tournament team players were watching Monday night to see if their next opponent would be the Troy Nationals.
The Americans won the first two games of the district tournament, defeating Eufaula 18-7 on Saturday and the Enterprise Americans 12-3 on Monday.
“They’ve played good for two games,” said Coach David Nelson. “They’ve made some real good plays on defense.”
And, Nelson said, the team is starting to gel.
“We practiced real hard for the past two weeks, and they’ve gotten a lot better,” he said. “They’re working together and encouraging each other.”
Nelson said the team benefited from strong hitting throughout the lineup. Kylar Kidd, Darryl Lee and Avery Lee each recorded multiple hits in Monday’s game.
The Americans are scheduled to face the winner of Monday night’s game between the Troy Nationals and the Enterprise Nationals.
Troy Nationals were 1-0 in tournament play prior to Monday’s game.
“We’re hoping it’s going to be the other Troy team,” Nelson said. “We would be the last two teams in the winners bracket.”
The championship game is scheduled for Thursday.
