The bats “finally came alive” Tuesday for the Troy Dixie Minor Nationals as they defeated Eufaula 13-7 in the sub-district tournament in Eufaula.
After several close games dominated by pitching duels, Coach Chris Huner said he was pleased to see the team so productive at the plate.
“I knew we could score all along; we were just waiting for them to bust loose, and they did,” he said.
Several players had two hits in Tuesday’s game, including Chance Pollard, Brock Huner, Daniel Phillips, Noah Lowery and Laertis Brantley. Cole McWhorter, Trevor Barron, Will Stephens and Clay Barron each had one hit.
“Almost everybody got a hit tonight,” Huner said. “ It was pretty well spread out through the lineup, top to bottom, and that’s what a coach likes to see.”
Runs were scored by Pollard (2), Huner, Phillips, Reeves, Lowery, McWhorter, Stephens, Brantley (2), C. Barron (2) and Jalen Deveridge.
Huner said the team was able to keep the pressure on Eufaula offensively, a much different game than when the Nationals faced the team on Monday. They Troy team won that game 2-1 in what Huner described as a “pitcher’s duel.”
They head into tonight’s championship game 3-0, the only undefeated team in the tournament.
The Troy Nationals will face the Enteprise Americans, whom they defeated 5-4 on Saturday, at 7 p.m. today in Eufaula.
