Driver’s license test days change

Teenagers hoping to get a permit or driver’s license make note: the days you can take the tests in Pike County are changing.
The Troy driver license examining office, which administers both the written tests for the driver’s permits and the driving tests for licenses for all residents regardless of age, will now be open on Thursday and Friday. Previously, the office had been open on Wednesday and Friday.
The change is effective Oct. 6.
“This transfer of services will enhance the efficiency of Driver License operations and will increase the hours of service to the public,” said Trooper Kevin Cook of the Alabama Department of Public Safety. “Increasing demand for Driver License services in the area has warranted these changes and will decrease the wait times that customers have seen in the Troy Driver License examining office.”
The office will be open for from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on both Thursday and Friday.
And, for those teens anxious to test on the day they turn 16, other area Driver License examining offices are open as follows:
• Ozark, 8 a.m. to 4:30 on Mondays and Thursdays.
• Luverne, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Mondays.
• New Brockton, 8 a.m t 4:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays
• Union Springs, 9 a.m. t 4 p.m. on Thursdays
• Dothan, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Mondays and Fridays
Driver’s license renewals will continue to be handled at the Probate Judge’s office. “(They) will be unaffected by the transferring of services and are available Monday through Friday at the Pike County Courthouse,” Cook said.
