A Troy man is charged with attempted murder after an early Saturday shooting on Park Street.
Xavier Quantez Edward, 17, was being held Monday on $75,000 bond in the Pike County Jail.
Police said Edward was arrested around 10 a.m. Saturday morning. The shooting took place around 2:30 a.m. that day.
“Officers were in the process of responding to the report of a fight when it changed to a report of shots fired,” said Police Chief Jimmy Ennis.
The incident took place in the 100 block of Park Street.
“(Edward) was going to visit someone … when this argument broke out,” Ennis said. “It was an argument that turned into a shooting.”
Ennis said Edwards is charged with shooting a Troy man in the abdomen with a handgun. No one else was injured in the incident and Ennis said police believe those were the only shots fired.
As of Monday, the weapon had not been recovered.
The victim was transported to Troy Regional Medical Center and then to Baptist South in Montgomery.
Police said the case remains under investigation.
