The Troy women’s basketball team will try to shake off a 0-5 start on the road against in-state foe Auburn.
The Trojans fell twice in Orono, Maine in the Dead River Company Classic to host Maine (66-53) and Evansville (59-49).
Auburn leads the all-time series over Troy 31-2 with the Trojans last victory coming during the 1979-80 season.
Troy senior DeAngela Sword, who has averaging 13.2 points per contest, will look to continue her success against the Tigers.
Another Trojan senior, Tenia Manuel, is making her presence felt this season. Manuel broke the 500 career points mark with a team-leading 18 against Evansville.
The Trojans return 10 players this season three of which are seniors (Sword, Manuel, and Aarika Howard).
Troy assistant coach Craig Kennedy will be making a return to his old stomping grounds. Kennedy served under formed Auburn head coach Joe Ciambi from 2000-04. In his first season at Auburn Kennedy served as Director of Basketball Operation before moving to the bench in 2001.
The Tigers are off to a hot start in 2011. Auburn comes in to the matchup 4-1 and picked up the program’s 800th win Nov. 15 with a 80-53 decision against Belmont.
Auburn’s lone loss came to eighth-ranked Duke.
Troy and Auburn are set to tip from Auburn Arena tonight at 6 p.m.
