McLaughlin named Lineman of the Year

The Alabama Sports Writers Association named Pike Liberal Arts senior Nick McLaughlin Lineman of the Year on at a banquet in Montgomery on Wednesday.
McLaughlin finished a stellar career with the Patriots registering 471 tackles and 10 interceptions in his time on the gridiron.
McLaughlin led Pike Liberal Arts in tackles the past three seasons and finished second on the team his freshman year.
“It is a great honor,” McLaughlin said. “I feel really good about it. It was a surprise considering all the other guy up for the award.”
McLaughlin was also a star on the offensive side if the ball for the Patriots. His career numbers as a running back were as impressive as his defensive stats. McLaughlin rushed for 4,026 yards and 47 touchdowns in his career to go along with 408 receiving yards. In his limited time lined up at quarterback, McLaughlin threw for 102 yards and two touchdowns.
McLaughlin beat out Blake Glaze of Springwood and E.J. Sledge of Bessemer Academy for the award.
“It’s great to win the award for Pike Liberal,” McLaughlin said. “It’s an accomplishment for the school.”
Sam Coleman of Edgewood Academy took the honors of AISA Back of the Year while Elba running back and Troy commitment Michael Lindsey received 51 votes as Class 2A Back of the Year to finish third.
