Due to some unusual problems with the weather, the Charles Henderson High School boy’s basketball team had to postpone their game against Northview until Tuesday, Jan. 24.
The delay was caused by high outside humidity, which caused the floors and walls of the Trojans basketball arena to become slippery and unsafe.
The Trojans were only able to play the first few minutes of their game, and the only points they were able to get on the board came courtesy of a two-pointer by Robert Lee.
The game will be postponed until Tuesday night, and a new tip-off time has been scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
“We can use this time to get some rest and build up a better focus,” Trojans head coach Carl Hollis said. “We’ve played them twice this season and they’ve hit a buzzer beater on us before so it will be a good ball game. It’s going to come down to how well were able to execute on offense and who brings in the best defense.”
Although the boys were given a few extra days to lay out a game plan, the girl’s team was handed a 44-31 loss before the court conditions became too unsafe.
The girl’s had big problems hitting their free throws throughout the game, completing only three of their 11 attempts in the first half and only six out of 18 in the second.
Northview on the other hand used the high number of attempts to their advantage, scoring 19 of their 44 points on free shots.
The girl’s managed to take the lead at the start of the second period, going up 7-5 early at the start of the quarter, but were only able to hold on to it for a brief moment.
Northview took back control to go up 8-7, and held the lead for the remainder of the game and got ahead by as much as 24 points at one point late in the third.
Maya Monfistion, who scored 11 points and hit three free shots, led the Trojans on offense.
Backing up Monfistion was India Blakely with eight points and Camille Martin with four.
After the Trojan boy’s rescheduled game on Tuesday, both teams will be back in action on Friday, Jan. 27, against Enterprise in a home meeting.
Tip off is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
