Pike County high school picked up a big time area win in front of a home crowd Friday night, taking down the Geneva Panthers 60-41. The Bulldogs were led by Ryshawn Hall who led his team to victory by posting 17 total points.

The Bulldogs (4-18, 3-3 in area) established themselves early in game with a 9-2 run. They went on to close out the first quarter out with a strong 16-4 lead. However, Geneva came out strong to begin the second quarter muscling their way back with a 9-0 run to cut the Bulldog lead down to 16-13. Both teams exchanged points to close out the first half with Pike County leading 28-23.

Pike County set their pace early in the second half with 15-3 point run to begin the third quarter. Geneva answered back again with a 7-0 run of their own heading into the final quarter down 43-33.

In the fourth quarter, Geneva suffered a technical fowl on their bench in the final five minutes to squash their momentum of a comeback. The penalty began a 12-2 run for the Bulldogs, and after a last second four point surge by Geneva, secured a 60-41 victory for Pike County.

“I’m proud of our guys and the effort they gave tonight,” head coach Doug Branson said.

“We had a rough start to the season, our guys faced adversity early but they bounced back and have really improved.”

With the victory and a second place finish in the area the Bulldogs now look to prepare for Opp high school. The game is set for Tuesday February 7th.
