Charles Henderson wins tourney

MONTGOMERY – Charles Henderson (9-3) completed a successful weekend by defeating Alabama Christian, 3-1, at Riverwalk Stadium to claim the Jerry Armstrong Memorial Tournament championship.
Jalin Lawson pitched the full seven innings to pick up the victory. Lawson allowed just two hits in the contest.
Joey Denison delivered a RBI single in the first to plate Michael Fox, who reached on a walk. Denison would drive home Michael Thomas on a groundout in the third to stretch the Trojans lead to 2-0.
Gregory Barnette would triple in the sixth and Chase Smartt’s sacrifice fly would score him to gave Charles Henderson all the cushion it would need.
The Trojans earned the berth into the championship game after defeating Decatur 16-0 on the back of Tripp Blackmon’s ho-hitter.
Blackmon pitched five innings striking out six.
Lawson lead Charles Henderson at the plate with a 2-for-2 performance with a pair of doubles and two RBI.
Luke Hastings had a 2-RBI base hit and Austin Adler added a single also.
The Trojans beat Montgomery Academy, 11-0, to open the tournament on Monday then knocked off LAMP, 15-3, on Thursday. Against LAMP, Michael Fox led Charles Henderson on the mound pitching six innings allowing just a single earned run.
Joey Denison paced the Trojans at the plate with a 3-for-5 performance including a double and three RBI.
Jalin Lawson and Tripp Blackmon were 2-for-4 each in the game with a RBI.
Luke Hastings was 2-for-3 with a run batted in as well.
Charles Henderson returns to action today as they travel to take on Stanhope Elmore. The Trojans split a doubleheader with the Mustangs on Feb. 28. Game time is set for 6:30p.m.
Charles Henderson opens are play on Friday as they host Eufaula at 6p.m. The Trojans will then travel to face Eufaula on Saturday in a doubleheader beginning at noon.
