The City of Troy and Troy Parks and Recreation will host the 2012 Dixie Angles World Series.
Troy Parks and Recreation Director Dan Smith said he and the department are excited about the opportunity to host the city’s first softball world series.
“This is a big event for the City of Troy,” Smith said. “We have been in contact with the national directors for some time about getting a softball world series here and it worked out for us.”
Smith said that the department and turned in a request to host a Dixie Softball World Series in 2014. The city originally scheduled to host this year’s event, located in Virginia, was forced to back out of its hosting duties and Dixie officials contacted Troy.
The event, which features girls ages 9-10, will begin on July 27 and run through August 1.
The City of Troy has hosted three previous Dixie Baseball World Series tournaments.
Troy will also host the Dixie Ponytails and Dixie Debs state tournament this year.
“I’ve been told many times by visitors after a tournament is over that Troy felt like home,” Smith said. “We want to create that feeling again.”
