Troy’s Junior Dixie Boys battled through the losers bracket of the District 6 tournament but came up short falling to Enterprise 13-2 in the championship game.
“We just couldn’t get any momentum at the beginning of the game,” head coach Sam Kitchens said. “I made some adjustment that I thought would help and it didn’t work. I thought the guys played hard and did every thing they could do.”
Leading 1-0 in the second inning, Enterprise would pound out five hits and score four runs to extend their lead to 5-0.
Enterprise would tack on a pair in each the fifth and sixth innings.
Troy finally break through in the bottom of the sixth. Nick Lewis and Charlie Tisdale both singled with two outs. An Enterprise fielding error would allow Lewis to score but Tisdale was cut down at second to end the threat.
After Enterprise added four runs in the seventh, Trae Sullivant scored on Bryson Gandy’s double with two outs. The game would end with Troy runners stranded at each base.
Jackson Murphy and Grant Hughes also had hits for Troy.
Lewis finished as the lone player with multiple hits for Troy.
