Ingram’s late touchdown pass lifts Trojans to win

Sophomore quarterback Austin Ingram threw for three touchdowns including a 40-yard strike to Kenyatte Jones on fourth and 16 with 1:20 remaining in the game to lift Charles Henderson (1-0) to a 29-22 victory over Class 3A Bayside Academy in Daphne on Friday night.
“I told our kids from day one that this team was going to come out to play,” Charles Henderson head coach Mike Dean said. “To come out after a hurricane week with the concentration and execution they showed speaks to their team.”
Bayside opened the game by recoved a surprise onside kick at the Trojans 38-yard line. The Admirals would puch it into the end zone and convert a two-point conversion with 9:06 left in the first quarter to take an 8-0 lead.
Charles Henderson would respond with 4:22 to go in the quarter when Courtney Downing broke a 46-yard run for a score. John Johnson ran in the two-point conversion to knot the game.
Two minutes later, Austin Ingram connected with Johnson for a 33-yard touchdown pass to hand the lead to the Trojans, 15-8.
The team would trade possession until the second quarter when Bayside drove from the Charles Henderson 24 and score on an 11-yard pass. The game was tied 15-15.
The Trojans would threated just before the half but missed a field goal.
Bayside came out strong in the second half driving the ball 68 yards to take a 22-15 advantage.
The Trojans would once again answer with 2:02 left in the third. Ingram found Johnson for the second time for a 22-yard strike.
The game would remain tied until late in the fourth quarter. Charles Henderson’s De’Torrian Green recovered an Admiral fumble. Ingram then hooked up with Jones on a fourth down play that would prove to be the game-winning score.
Ingram finished the game 18-for-24 for 234 yards, three touchdowns and one interception.
Charles Henderson will take on Beauregard on the road in the team’s first region match of the season.
