According to the unofficial results from Tuesday’s election in Brundidge, Betty Baxter is the new District 1 councilmember and Margaret Ross will step into the District 3 seat.

With poll votes and absentee ballots both counted, Baxter secured 108 votes while incumbent Lawrence Bowden garnered 88 votes.

Baxter and Bowdin tied at the polls on Aug. 28 when both received 81 votes. Neither received a provisional vote when the Brundidge City Council canvassed the votes.
In the District 3 race, 103 Ross supporters cast their vote and Foster received 73 votes.

On Aug. 28, Ross led the District 3 race over Foster with 81 votes – 47.9 percent. When the council canvassed the votes, Foster garnered one provisional ballot, giving him 23 percent of the vote.
The City of Brundidge has reported that there are a few provisional ballots, but not enough to make a difference in this run-off election.

Baxter and Ross will join those already elected to city offices – Jimmy Ramage, mayor; Arthur Lee Griffin, District 2; Cynthia Pearson, District 4; and Steven Coleman, District 5.
Newly-elected officials will take office in November.
