Monday press conference notes/quotes

Troy coaches called off practice on Sunday, but said the team watched film. Head coach Larry Blakeney said he was trying something a little different this week. At this point in the season, coaches will tell you if the players don’t know the basic offense and defense by now, they’ll never know it. Troy will begin putting in its game plan tomorrow.

Blakeney did say that if he could have the decision over again, he would choose to go with the wind in the second half instead of against. All the points scored on Saturday were scored with the wind to the offense’s back except for FAU’s final touchdown.

One of the constants that we heard from players and coaches was the inability to convert manageable third downs. Troy was converting at a 52 percent clip heading into the game, the Trojans converted just 4 of 16 attempts (25%) vs. FAU.

Offensive coordinator Kenny Edenfield said the Corey Robinson-to-Deon Anthony ratio was where they wanted it other than the offense didn’t stay on the field long. Edenfield said Robinson got around 49 snaps and Anthony 25. Six of Troy’s 14 drives ended in three-and-out, one with an interception. Robinson: “It seemed like we were either sputtering or scoring.” Robinson went on to say that he feels the offense hasn’t put together a complete game since the 2010 New Orleans Bowl.

Troy plays at Tennessee (3-5) in an 11 a.m. kickoff this week.

QUOTES

Larry Blakeney

“It’s going to be loud and it’s going to be orange. It’s going to be really orange.

See, noise don’t bother us, unless you’ve just got sensitive ears. Offensively, we really don’t have a cadence. The center does the cadence. There is some verbal stuff, but most of it’s signals.”

Corey Robinson

“It’s frustrating more to lose more than that. All I can say is that I hate losing. My record wouldn’t show that, but it’s a thing that I despise. It’s not like I go out there to play to lose every week at all. I go out there and put my best foot forward and just to help my teammates and help my team win every week. It’s frustrating, but at the same time, I know those guys are giving their best effort over there. You know, I guess that’s all I can say about it.”

Justin Albert on UT fight song

“You’ll always be, or something like that. We’re trying not to hear that at all Saturday. They’re going to play it to try to get to us. The atmosphere, it’s crazy. There’s going to be a lot of orange. It will probably be one of the biggest stadiums I’ve played in, so I want to perform my best.”

Kanorris Davis

“I don’t know what it is. Just from me running around hitting. I go in with my head. It’s an issue they told me not to do. Just me being angry on the field, wanting to force something to happen, I was using my head, using it the wrong way.

It’s something that when it first happened, I shook it off, thought it was just something where you get hit a little hard and something you get a little ding and try to shake it off and continue playing thinking nothing is going to happen. As I continued to play and with every hit, the harder and harder I hit, the more and more it affected me. I had to tell the trainers about it. I told the coaches about it. Tried to see what the issue was about, so there wouldn’t be any future problems. So far, it just hasn’t gone my way yet.”
